Debt ProblemsIf You Have Debt Problems, You Are Not Alone!Debt problems are so common that it's almost rare to meet someone that doesn't have them. We're encouraged to use credit cards or finance any purchase and we've done a good job of doing just that. In the "good old days" home buyers even paid cash, and charging anything else was unheard of. Gradually things became more expensive and banks learned that they could make big profits by adding interest and other fees to each loan. These days, the prices for houses and cars are out of reach for most people unless they finance them. Unfortunately, that's carried over into every product we use, including furniture, clothing, and other consumer products. Essentially, buying things on credit has become a way of life. It's to be expected that not everyone could manage all of these financial dealings without creating debt problems. Sadly, more than just a few are in this predicament. Statistics tell us that over half of all Americans have reached a point where their debt is unmanageable. Children often started savings accounts through their schools and were proud to make a weekly deposit. Now they receive credit card offers in the mail, and a number of parents actually allow their use. By the time these kids are adults, they often don't have a clue about the proper use of credit or the concept of paying cash for what they buy. It's no wonder so many have debt problems; we've lost site of effective financial education. Just sit down at your computer and you'll see millions of ads, including spam, for credit cards in hundreds of categories. Car companies tell you that you can have the ride of your dreams with nothing down or even cash back. If you have poor credit or even a recent bankruptcy, you can still take out a home mortgage. Turn on the TV and you'll see the same encouragements to buy, buy, buy…and pay later. Open your mail box and you'll pull out a fist full of offers for all sorts of credit.
